History

Venezuela was inhabited by Arawak Carib and Chibcha Indians before being explored by Christopher Columbus in 1498. These nomadic people had to hunt because of the difficulties they had in agriculture. This was until Spain got involved and found out that Venezuela was rich in cacao and coffee. Caracas was founded in 1567. Simón Bolívar, who led the revolt against Spain, was born in Caracas in 1783. The battles for Independence were fought between 1749 and 1830, during which Simón Bolívar became a national hero. Simon Bolivar didn’t just get Venezuela’s independence but also Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, and Peru. Venezuela became the first South American country to gain their independence from Spain. Then Venezuela joined together with the republic of Gran Colombia which is now Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.
