History

Venezuela was inhabited by Arawak Carib and Chibcha Indians before being explored by Christopher Columbus in 1498. These nomadic people had to hunt because of the difficulties they had in agriculture. This was until Spain got involved and found out that Venezuela was rich in cacao and coffee. Caracas was founded in 1567. Simón Bolívar, who led the revolt against Spain, was born in Caracas in 1783. The battles for Independence were fought between 1749 and 1830, during which Simón Bolívar became a national hero. Simon Bolivar didn’t just get Venezuela’s independence but also Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, and Peru. Venezuela became the first South American country to gain their independence from Spain. Then Venezuela joined together with the republic of Gran Colombia which is now Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.

Venezuela government

Venezuela is a federal republic; which consists of 5 branches which are the executive, legislative, judiciary, electoral, and citizen. A federal republic is a type of government where the power of the central government is distributed to the sovereign power where the voters chose their representatives. Hugo Chavez is the current president; he has been president since 1999. Last year he made a popular vote so that he can be the president indefinitely. Venezuela gets their money from the exports of their oil reserves. Venezuela has some of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world. The country's main petroleum is located around Lake Maracaibo and in the Gulf of Venezuela.

Venezuelan & U.S. Government

Venezuela's type of government is a federal republic; which consists of 5 branches which are the executive, legislative, judiciary, electoral, and citizen. The executive branch is composed of Hugo Chavez was elected by popular vote for a six-year term with a two consecutive term limit. He can run for president next year even though he has been in office for 11 years. The legislative Branch consists of members elected by popular vote to serve five-year terms; where three seats reserved for the indigenous peoples of Venezuela. The Judicial Branch is composed of people that are elected by the National assembly for a 12-year term. Their Electoral Branch has 5 members elected through the National Assembly for a seven-year term. The Citizen Branch ensures that citizens and government officials follow the laws. There is someone who is the prosecutor and a person who protects people’s human rights. The United States government is democratic. It has three branches the executive, legislative and judicial. The executive branch consists of the president, vice president and the cabinet. The legislative branch consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 100 senators and each state has two representatives. The judicial branch consists of the Supreme Court and federal courts. The United States and the Venezuelan Government is that Hugo Chavez can be president for a longer term as well as his Cabinet. The country is communist and they have a large reserve of oil which the United States does not use. Venezuela also gets their economical finances through the cocoa and the coffee that they get from their agriculture. They also are different because Venezuelan is a communist and a socialist country. They pay for most jobs are the same.
